A book is intimate. We treat the file that way.
We need your manuscript in order to read it. We have built things so the original stays private, each reader only gets the chapter in front of them and their own notes, and deleting a book really deletes it.
Your original file stays private
Your DOCX, EPUB, PDF, or TXT sits in private storage at Cloudflare. nomdeplume never creates a public link to it.
Google Docs links import a DOCX copy from Google. We don’t change your sharing settings or keep the document in sync. You can keep a Google Doc private by downloading it as DOCX and uploading that copy instead.
Chapters are stored for the read
We split your manuscript into chapters and keep them in our database so a reader can move through them one at a time, without seeing ahead.
Who sees what
When a reader reads a chapter, that chapter goes to OpenAI along with the reader’s instructions and a short memory of what they have read so far. OpenAI is asked not to store it (store=false). The request passes through Cloudflare’s AI Gateway with logging turned off, so the gateway keeps nothing either.
Your author note stays sealed during the first read. Readers only see it afterward, when they sit down at the reading table to write you a letter.
If you ask for an editorial or marketing pass, the draft you supply and your author note go to OpenAI the same way, stored nowhere. Those passes are separate from the first read.
Group summaries and draft comparisons are written by Anthropic’s Claude. Claude works from the reader letters and chapter notes, not from your manuscript, though those notes can quote short passages. Anthropic keeps those requests for up to 30 days.
When you talk with a reader afterward, that conversation also goes to Claude with the reader’s notes and the text of any chapter they reread to answer you. The same 30-day retention applies. Those conversations are saved with your book and deleted with it.
If you ask to be emailed when a read ends, that note carries your book’s title and a link back to it. It never carries your manuscript, a chapter, or anything a reader wrote. You can turn it off on your book at any time.
Stripe handles payment. It never receives manuscript text.
Inviting a friend
An invitation link points back to your account, never to a manuscript.
When someone follows your link, we remember it in a browser cookie for 30 days and attach it if they create an account. You earn one read credit when they upload a manuscript.
You see how many credits you have earned, not who signed up or what they uploaded. To stop one person collecting the reward twice by deleting and recreating an account, we keep a one-way fingerprint of their email address, not the address itself. Credits you have already spent stay spent if a book is deleted.
You can take your book home
Delete a book and we delete the stored drafts, the chapters, every reader’s notes and letters, your author notes, saved revision decisions, editorial and marketing passes, comparisons, and the purchase records tied to it.
